Linda works in oils, acrylics and chalk pastels. She has studied art through courses taken at: St. Lawrence College, Algonquin College, Ottawa School of Art, Nepean Visual Art Centre, Ottawa Visual Art Centre and Loyalist College. She has studied under varied local artists in Ottawa: Maria Mask, John Alexander Day, Deborah Czernecky, David Jones and Andrea Ross. She has also taken pottery, sculpting, stain glass and etching on glass courses which has influenced her art in the shapes and the light in her work. Passionate about art all her life, she has been seriously painting for the past 15 years. Inspired by varied artists, she uses predominately oils and pastels. She also continues to enjoy exploring different techniques and mediums. Born and raised on the East Coast of Canada where the ocean, sand and salty air has enticed her to paint water landscapes. Her work varies in style but the subject is often captured in the drama of the sky, water and land. Retired after a 30 year career in the health care field, she became sensitive to the miracles in nature, from the smallest creatures to studies of rocks on the beach. Exhibits and galleries that she has participated in are: the Old Chelsea Art Gallery and Gallery Du Parc (both located in Old Chelsea, Québec). She has also shown at the Visual Art Centre in Orléans, North Gloucester Library, Alterna Savings, Allegro Music Studio, the Ottawa Tulip Festival, the Gloucester Art Gallery, the Ottawa Little Theatre and at the Vanier-Richelieu Community Centre. She has been juried into the Arts Ottawa East Shows in 2006 & 2007. Arts Ottawa East continue to use some photos of her paintings on some of their pamphlets.
Linda’s work is vibrant and is quite meditative for the viewers. In her painted images, she captures the mood of light in the water. She is drawn to these loose reflections and continues to evolve this subject. Recently, she traveled to Venice and has been inspired by the golden light against these old buildings and the water. The sky also has become magical for Linda, as she explores some of the dynamic changes of the weather in some of her paintings. City skylines has also become of interest, as seen in some of her recent paintings. She continues to take courses and challenge herself by trying new venues like figures and night paintings. Linda is an active member of the Pastel Artists of Canada, Art East and Ottawa Art Associations. She has served on the board for Art East and OAA to promote art and artists in our community. She has recently enjoyed an art teaching experience in a secondary school setting and with new immigrants at Ottawa Community Immigration Services Organization (where she volunteers in the English as a Second Language classes).
